What
can I do to avoid this problem?
It is difficult for
your chiropractor to know what you may be doing on
a day to day basis that may be
aggravating your condition but there are many things
that you should keep in mind to keep your spine
in line.
Here are a few tips:
Keep good posture - Poor posture
is one of the most common causes of subluxations
and one of the most
insidious. If you have poor posture than you will
have chronic
subluxations guaranteed .
Keep good sleeping
posture - Use
a pillow and mattress that maintains your neck in
line with the rest of
your spine. Don’t sleep on your stomach or
you will have chronic neck subluxations guaranteed.
Use
an ergonomic work station - Laptop computers are
bad for your posture. Sit up and look straight
ahead,
the top reading line or your computer should be
at eye level. If you spend a significant amount
of time
on the phone a head-set is appropriate. Never hold
the phone between your neck and shoulder.
Strengthen
your core - There are many different types of exercise
that will help you build the strength
of your core muscles including pilates, yoga
and exercise
ball programs. It doesn’t really matter
for most people which exercises are done as long
as
something
is being done on a regular basis.
Eat healthily
and stay hydrated - Proper nutrition is key
in maintaining a healthy body and has
a significant impact on subluxations in your
spine.
Avoid smoking
and excess alcohol - Smoking
and alcohol stresses your nervous system and causes
subluxations.
It has been demonstrated that smoking causes
premature degeneration of the spine.
Take
care of your emotional well-being - Emotional stress
is the most significant cause of subluxations.
Chiropractors
have difficulty fully resolving cases which
involve a great amount of emotional stress
due to the
havoc this type of stress plays on the
body. If you have
above normal amounts of stress from your
job, relationship or other factors you
will need
more frequent chiropractic
adjustments to release this stress from
your body. |
